Audits of the Reciclo Project were conducted in August and September to assess the selective waste collection process in ACI Matriz's production areas by shift. The Sustainability team demonstrated the results achieved and employee compliance.
\nInstead of paper and plastic waste being sent as trash to landfills, generating higher transportation and disposal costs for the company, with selective collection it is possible to sell this material to recycling companies and thus generate revenue for A\u00e7o Cearense.
\nThe first audit, held in August, identified improvements in the audited processes. A 104.49-ton increase in the selectivity of paper and plastic waste was observed in 2019.
\nIn light of this, in the second Reciclo audit, there was greater adherence and commitment from operational management and employees in selective collection, providing more expressive results with the increase in paper and plastic selectivity reaching 106.60 tons, an increase in segregation of 2.11 tons of paper and plastic.
\nCarlos Yves Cavalcanti, Sustainability Manager, highlights: "The factory's appearance has improved significantly, generating cleaner factories as well as greater involvement of all employees directly in improving processes," he emphasized.
\nAccording to the Sustainability team, 911 employees from various ACI departments have already been trained through Reciclo, and improved waste segregation has resulted in a reduction of 381 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the decomposition of waste that would otherwise occur if sent to landfill. This is equivalent to planting 2,726 trees needed to offset CO2 emissions.
